San Antonio police say Pete Astudillo registered three times over the legal blood-alcohol limit when he crashed his Chevy Suburban.

The backup singer for the late Tejano star Selena was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after his SUV crashed into barriers along a freeway loop Saturday night, WAOI radio/TV, San Antonio, reported Monday.

Astudillo, 41, described the accident to WAOI as "minor" and "little" and denied being drunk behind the wheel.

Police said a test right after the arrest indicated Astudillo's blood alcohol level was a steep 0.24. The legal limit is 0.8.

Astudillo asked fans not to judge him too harshly for the incident.

"Nobody's perfect," he said. "We all make mistakes. I mean, I don't condone drinking and driving, but we all make mistakes."
