James Marsden has been cast in Paramount's upcoming film based on iconic video game character Sonic the Hedgehog.

Marsden's role in the project remains unknown. The film will be a mix of both live-action and CGI, Variety reported.

The film will mark the feature-length debut of director Jeff Fowler who is best known for helming 2005 Oscar-nominated short "Gopher Broke," The Hollywood Reporter noted.

Pat Casey and Josh Miller penned the first draft of the script with Oren Uziel writing the most recent draft. "Deadpool" director Tim Miller is executive producing.

"Sonic the Hedgehog" is set to race into theaters on Nov. 15, 2019.

Video game maker Sega first published Sonic the Hedgehog in 1991 for the Sega Genesis.

The series to date has sold more than 360 million copies across various gaming platforms. Sega on Wednesday announced a new Sonic game titled Team Sonic Racing.

Marsden currently stars on HBO's sci-fi drama "Westworld" as Teddy.
