The clip, released Tuesday, explores Johnson's friendship with a silverback gorilla named George, who grows to a giant size after coming into contact with a mysterious object.

Johnson then fights to protect his friend from the government as it tries to subdue the enraged but confused animal.

Things get worse when George joins up with the giant wolf and lizard in destroying Chicago. As the military fights back, Johnson springs into action to rescue George and the city from the towering threats.

"Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth."

"But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size," reads the synopsis.

"To make matters worse, it's soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals. As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend."

"Rampage," based on the video game series of the same name, is directed by Brad Peyton and also stars Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, Jake Lacey, Joe Manganiello and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
