"The Sopranos" star James "Tony Soprano" Gandolfini underwent surgery for an old knee injury in New York this week, it was reported Friday.

New York Mets team doctor David Altchek performed the operation, repairing an injury the star suffered while playing football at Rutgers University, the New York Daily News reported.

The HBO mob drama airs its season finale Sunday with eight "bonus" episodes scheduled for next year as it winds down its seven-season run.
