'Galaxy Quest 2' movie was foiled by Alan Rickman's death

Sam Rockwell says Amazon was working to reunite the original "Galaxy Quest" cast for a sequel before Alan Rickman's death earlier this year.
During an interview on the Nerdist podcast, Rockwell said most of the original stars were ready to sign a deal that would jumpstart the production, but Rickman's death and other internal issues kept it from happening.
"We were ready to sign up, and Alan Rickman passed away and Tim Allen wasn't available -- he has a show -- and everybody's schedule was all weird. It was going to shoot, like, right now," Rockwell divulged.
"And how do you fill that void of Alan Rickman? That's a hard void to fill."
"Galaxy Quest" was a comedy film released in 1999 spoofing the famous sci-fi genre at the time. Rickman played Alexander Dane in the film, complete with alien makeup.
Rickman went on to starring roles in such films as "Harry Potter," "Love, Actually" and "Eye in the Sky" before his Jan. 14 death.
He will next be heard as the voice of the caterpillar in "Alice Through The Looking Glass."
