Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott and Will Smith are to star in the live-action remake of 1992's "Aladdin," Disney announced Saturday.

Massoud will play the title character, Scott will portray Princess Jasmine and Smith will play the Genie.

Guy Ritchie is directing the movie, which was penned by John August. Dan Lin is producing.

"Aladdin" is the latest Disney cartoon to receive a live-action makeover following the successes of "Alice in Wonderland," "Maleficent," "Cinderella," "The Jungle Book" and "Beauty and the Beast."

A live-action "Dumbo" project was also announced this weekend at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, Calif.
