Joe Manganiello is set to return to television in History's upcoming SEAL Team drama, "Six."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new scripted military drama series inspired by current events, will follow members of the Navy's SEAL Team Six as they embark on a dangerous mission to eliminate a Taliban leader in Afghanistan. Things take a turn for the worse when they discover that a U.S. citizen is working with the terrorists.

Manganiello, in his first full-time television role following HBO's hit vampire drama "True Blood," will star as Rip Taggart, a former leader of SEAL Team Six leader who has taken up residence in a small village in Africa to protect it from Boko Haram.

Written by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter William Broyles Jr. ("Apollo 13") and military special ops veteran David Broyles, the series is being produced by The Weinstein Co. and A+E Studios. "True Blood's" Lesli Linka Glatter has signed on to direct.

"[I'm] excited to finally team up with my friend Harvey Weinstein to play such an interesting character with such phenomenal material, directed by one of my all-time favorite True Blood directors, Lesli Linka Glatter," Manganiello said in a statement.

The 39-year-old will be joined by the previously cast Barry Sloane, Kyle Schmid, Edwin Hodge and Dominic Adams.

Earlier this month, Manganiello was cast as Hefty in Sony's animated sequel "Smurfs: The Lost Village" due in theaters March 31, 2017.
