Developer Mojang has announced the official release date for Warner Bros. upcoming film adaptation of Minecraft.

The "Minecraft" movie will be released on May 24, 2019 in both 3D & IMAX the company confirmed Monday in a blog post alongside a photo of a script for the project.

"That might seem like a long time away, but it just so happens to be the right amount of time to make it completely awesome. And we all want an awesome Minecraft movie, right?" Mojang continued in the post.

Based on the best-selling and hugely popular world building video game of the same name, "Minecraft" has no set plot or narrative except in the Telltale Games developed interactive adventure game, Minecraft: Story Mode.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. obtained the film rights to Minecraft in 2014. "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" star and co-creator Rob McElhenney is set to direct.
