"She can't have surgery because they believe it could do more harm than good," a TLC spokesperson told Daily Mail. "The damage is that bad."
The problem reportedly prevented Shannon, the 33-year-old mother of Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson, from getting a driver's license.
Shannon's blurry vision has been evident throughout the Here Comes Honey Boo Boo series on TLC. Shannon could barely drive a go-kart during Sugar Bear's 41st birthday celebration, she reportedly squinted and had to hold her cell phone very close to her face while texting, and she struggled putting makeup on Thompson for beauty pageants.
According to Daily Mail, a baby's chance of being born with cataracts is about one in 5,000 although it's fairly common amongst older adults.
