The "Father/Son" team of Michael Wu and Kevin Wu survived to compete in The Amazing Race's fourth seventeenth-season leg despite a last-place finish during Sunday night's broadcast of the Race's third leg.

"We're going to work even harder.  I'm motivated even more now, I feel like we shouldn't have lost this leg and there's still a lot of room for us to grow," Kevin said after discovering he and his father had managed to avoid elimination.

Since they finished last in the third leg, Michael and Kevin will now have to overcome a Speed Bump, a special additional task that only they will have to complete, in the fourth leg.

"We'll be ready," Kevin told The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan.

The Amazing Race's third seventeenth-season episode began with the Race's nine remaining teams leaving the course's second Pit Stop in Accra, Ghana.

Since they had been the first team to arrive at the Pit Stop, "Home Shopping Hosts" Brook Roberts and Claire Champlin were the first team to depart at 7:34AM.

They were then followed by "Beach Volleyball Partners" Katie Seamon and Rachel Johnston at 7:35AM, Michael and Kevin at 7:45AM, "Newly Dating Couple" Chad Waltrip and Stephanie Smith at 7:52AM, "Dating Couple" Jill Haney and Thomas Wolfard at 7:58AM, "Ivy League A Cappella Singers" Connor Diemand-Yauman and Jonathan Schwartz at 8:01AM, "Doctors/Friends" Nat Strand and Kat Chang at 8:02AM, "Dating Couple" Nick DeCarlo and Vicki Casciola at 8:04AM, and "Father/Daughter" Gary Ervin and Mallory Ervin at 8:06AM.

Upon opening their departure clues, the teams were instructed travel across town to the neighborhood of Jamestown and find the Akotoku Boxing Academy, where they would receive their next clue.

Brook and Claire were the first team to arrive at the boxing academy and were followed by Chad and Stephanie, Katie and Rachel, Connor and Jonathan, Michael and Kevin, Jill and Thomas, Gary and Mallory, and Nick and Vicki.

Nat and Kat arrived at the academy last after their taxi driver got lost.   Nat and Kat eventually learned where the academy was after seeing Chad and Stephanie leaving it, however their taxi driver still initially refused to believe them.

"Sit down.  I will drive!" he shouted.

Upon arriving at the academy, the teams received clues which instructed one member of each team to complete a Roadblock task that would give them a taste of a boxing training session.  After learning how to wrap their hands properly, the team member would have to work on a speed bag for 60 seconds and then jump rope for an additional 60 seconds.

Brook chose to do the Roadblock task for her team and was later joined by Chad, Rachel, Connor, Kevin, Thomas, Gary, Vicki, and Nat.

Brook and Claire were the first team to complete the Roadblock and were followed by Katie and Rachel, Chad and Stephanie, Connor and Jonathan, Michael and Kevin, Gary and Mallory, Nick and Vicki, Jill and Thomas, and Nat and Kat.

After completing the Roadblock, the teams received clues which told them to drive to another district and locate a supply depot.

Despite being the third team to depart the Roadblock, Connor and Jonathan were the first team to arrive at the supply depot.

They were followed by Brook and Claire, Michael and Kevin, Katie and Rachel, Gary and Mallory, Jill and Thomas, Nick and Vicki, Chad and Stephanie, and Nat and Kat.

Once at the supply depot, the teams received clues which instructed them to load a pair of wheelbarrows with a specific list of construction supplies and then take the materials to a foreman at the nearby Asebi D/A Primary School.  Once the proper supplies were delivered to the foreman, he would give them their next clue.

Unfortunately, several teams misread the clues and initially failed to deliver the proper materials to the foreman, causing them to have to take all their supplies back to the depot and start again.  Brook and Claire and Michael and Kevin each failed to use two wheelbarrows, while Katie and Rachel were missing a second trough and Nick and Vicki delivered an extra bag of cement.

Connor and Jonathan ended up being the first team to complete the supply delivery task and were followed by Brook and Claire, Gary and Mallory, Michael and Kevin, Jill and Thomas, Chad and Stephanie, Katie and Rachel, Nick and Vicki, and Nat and Kat.

After completing the supply delivery, the teams received clues which instructed them to proceed to one of the school's classrooms and take an "African geography quiz" which required them to locate Ghana on a map of Africa.

While they needed several attempts to correctly locate Ghana on a map, Connor and Jonathan were able to maintain their lead and were the first team to complete the quiz.

Gary and Mallory, Chad and Stephanie, Jill and Thomas, Katie and Rachel, Brook and Claire, Michael and Kevin, Nick and Vicki, and Nat and Kat then followed next, with nearly all the teams also needing multiple attempts to locate the country on a map.

After finishing the quiz, the teams learned it was time for them to complete one of two Detour tasks: "Bicycle Parts" or "Language Arts."

"Bicycle Parts" required the teams to use a stick to roll a bicycle rim across a soccer field without letting the rim fall and then (following a break) roll the rim back again.

"Language Arts" required the teams to select a proverb containing eight highlighted phrases and then use a decoder key to locate the native visual alphabet symbol which represented each phrase on a long decorative cloth mounted to the side of a building.

Connor and Jonathan selected "Language Arts."  Due to their first-place lead, they were able to the decoder key was on a smaller cloth mounted on the back of the building and complete the task before any of the other teams arrived at the location.

All of the other teams except Gary and Mallory and Nick and Vicki also ended up initially choosing "Language Arts," however unlike Connor and Jonathan, none of them were able to find the decoder cloth on the back of the building -- resulting in all six eventually deciding to switch to the "Bicycle Parts" task.

Gary and Mallory were the second team to complete the Detour task and were followed by Chad and Stephanie, Katie and Rachel, Nick and Vicki, Brook and Claire, Jill and Thomas, and Nat and Kat.

Michael and Kevin became the last team to finish the task after Michael, a 58-year-old from Sugar Land, TX, needed medical treatment after becoming dehydrated in the 98-degree heat.

After completing the Detour task, the teams received clues which instructed them to follow the markers and make their way on foot to a local farm that would serve as the Race's third Pit Stop.

While Nat and Kat had a hard time finding the markers, all nine teams still ended up arriving at the Pit Stop in the same order they had left the Detour -- leaving Michael and Kevin expecting their elimination.

"Michael and Kevin, I'm sorry to tell you that you are the last team to arrive," Phil told the pair.

"It's all right," Kevin said.

"It's my fault.  My body gave out," Michael added.  "I wanted to travel to as many places as I could with my son."

"Well guys, there is actually some good news for coming in last," Phil told the surprised team.

"No way," Kevin said.  "Don't even..."

"This is a non-elimination leg and you are still in the Race," Phil said, causing the men to begin celebrating.

"Dad, see, that's why you don't give up!" Kevin noted.
