Animal Planet has announced Raw Nature, a new reality series that will show how human development is encroaching on the natural instincts of animals, will premiere Tuesday, April 29 at 9PM ET/PT as part of the network's "Jaws & Claws" programming block.

Raw Nature will follow filmmakers Matt Renner, Mitch Tanen, Gianny Truttman and Anneli Gericke as they travel across the world to document wildlife professionals working to help animals survive human encroachment.

Subjects will include a man dedicated to rescuing poached sloth bears turned entertainers on the streets of India, and a Sumatra biologist who's doing everything she can to help save the orangutan population from total extinction.

Viewers will also be provided with an up-close-and-personal view of animals -- from Komodo Dragons' whose spit will kill you to white rhinos who will charge at a moment's notice.

In addition, the series will also emphasize conservation, preservation and an understanding that the world needs to ensure its own survival.

"Raw Nature fits perfectly with our Jaws & Claws Tuesday night programming," said Animal Planet executive Marjorie Kaplan. "It's a striking new entertainment perspective on animal adventures with non-experts. I think our viewers really will connect with these producers who are caught off guard with the natural world and would themselves react in much the same way."

The five-episode series is executive produced by Deadliest Catch and Ice Road Truckers producer Thom Beer and The Amazing Race producer Bertram van Munster. Raw Nature is produced for Animal Planet by Original Productions, Inc.

Animal Planet announced in February that it was relaunching and rebranding itself around a new more adult-targeted programming schedule that would include animal-themed reality shows and additional Meerkat Manor-like anthropomorphic series.
