NBC upgrades 'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy' cross-promotion with Jay Leno August 7, 2003
Reuters reports that NBC has upgraded its previously-announced cross-promotion between the Bravo show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and its The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Under the new schedule, NBC will run a full hour episode of Queer Eye on the night of August 14, not a half-hour special edition. The "Fab Five" will then appear on Jay Leno's show that night -- but as guests. On the next night, August 15, the "Fab Five" will return again to the Tonight Show to do a "make-better" of Jay Leno.

NBC had said that it was considering broadcasting another episode of Bravo's Queer Eye for the Straight Guy on network TV, and so it will -- with some help from a special guest.

Michael Starr in the NY Post reports that NBC is "definitely considering re-airing" episodes of the Bravo hit Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, in the face of record-breaking ratings for the cable show. The July 29 episode of the show on Bravo (which is owned by NBC) drew 2.8 million viewers, smashing the record for the most-watched show in Bravo history: the 1.6 million who watched the series premiere on July 15. The first episode then drew 6.7 million viewers to NBC when re-aired on the broadcast network on July 24.

The new hit Bravo series “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” generated strong ratings results in a special Thursday telecast on the NBC network last night, retaining 86 percent of its 18-49 lead-in from television’s #2 comedy among adults 18-49, “Will & Grace.” Over the previous six weeks, NBC has averaged an 83 percent retention in that time period with a combination of “Will & Grace” and “Frasier.”

NBC has announced that it will broadcast a special 30-minute version of the Bravo’s critically acclaimed unscripted lifestyle makeover series “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” on Thursday, July 24 9:30-10 PM ET. “After as much media attention and a breakout premiere on Bravo, we want to offer this unusual series a bigger platform,” said Jeff Zucker, President, NBC Entertainment. “The sensational ratings speak for themselves and our Thursday-night audience makes a good fit for this special edition.”

Last night’s 10-11 PM ET premiere of the new Bravo original series “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” has rewritten the cable network’s ratings record book, attracting a stellar 1.166 million viewers in the adult 25-54 category, 1.204 million viewers in the adult 18-49 category and 1.641 million total viewers. “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” also achieved a Bravo-record 1.61 household rating.

Bravo has announced that “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” the network's new, unscripted lifestyle makeover series, will premiere on Tuesday, July 15 at 10 PM ET/PT, The debut show will be immediately followed by a second first-run episode at 11 PM ET/PT. The series will then begin its regular run with a new episode every Tuesday evening at 10:00pm ET/PT.
