By Steve Rogers, 07/25/2003

The new hit Bravo series “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” generated strong ratings results in a special Thursday telecast on the NBC network last night, retaining 86 percent of its 18-49 lead-in from television’s #2 comedy among adults 18-49, “Will & Grace.” Over the previous six weeks, NBC has averaged an 83 percent retention in that time period with a combination of “Will & Grace” and “Frasier.”

According to preliminary “fast affiliate-based” in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research, the special 9:30 p.m. ET telecast of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” achieved a 3.2 rating, 10 share among adults 18-49 and attracted an average of 6.7 million viewers overall. The 3.2 rating matches NBC’s second-highest rating in that time period in six weeks. “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” ran a strong #2 in 18-49, overall total viewers and several other key categories opposite CBS’ “CSI.”

“Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” is a new unscripted lifestyle makeover series that’s telecast on Bravo, with new episodes running Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. ET. “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” features cast members Ted Allen, Kyan Douglas, Thom Filicia, Carson Kressley and Jai Rodriguez, collectively known as the “The Fab Five,” a team of gay men, all experts in their respective fields of food & wine, grooming, interior design, fashion and culture. Each week they apply their expertise to improve the lives and looks of a straight man. After two weeks, “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” has re-written the Bravo record book with the two highest viewer totals ever in the network’s target adult 25-54 demographic - 1.3 million and 1.2 million. Before the new “make-better” series premiered, the Bravo record in 25-54 viewers was 695,000. “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” has also set a Bravo total viewers record of 1.6 million persons.
