The Voice ousted quarterfinalists Mathai and Cheesa Laureta and determined its four remaining second-season Top 8 semifinalists during Tuesday night's broadcast of the NBC singing competition.

During the "sing to be saved" portion of last night's The Voice broadcast, Mathai was beaten out by fellow "Team Adam" member Katrina Parker, a singer from Holly Ridge, NC, after she performed "Perfect" by Pink. Parker sang a rendition of Carrie Underwood's "Cowboy Cassanova."
"This really boils down to who I've seen more from so far, because I think you both have the potential to be the winners of this thing. I really do. I think that, because I have to make a decision right now, you both need to know that... you made it. You both made it... This is hard. This is not just for being dramatic sake," Levine explained once it became time for him to make his decision between the two artists.
"I really didn't think that Katrina was going to make it as far as she did. You blew my mind, Katrina. You really knocked me out. Mathai, we talked about that moment and getting that moment and capturing that moment, and how hard it is to do that, and I kept waiting for you to explode and for people to see what I see. And that's still going to happen, but I mean regardless of the show or no show, I still believe in you and it's going to happen. Going forward in a competition, I've got to save Katrina."
Mathai maintained a smile and seemed happy with her journey on The Voice's second season.
"Adam, you're awesome. That goes without saying. Thank you to America. Thank you to the show for showing me how much I want to sing for the rest of my life, and I love you guys. I really do," Mathai said following her ouster.
After singing again for the coaches, Laureta lost to fellow "Team Cee Lo" member Juliet Simms, a singer from Tampa, FL. Laureta performed a version of "Already Gone" by Kelly Clarkson, while Simms sang Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn."
"Cheesa, I love you and you are so -- your voice sounds so accomplished and classically trained, you know what I'm saying? So it would be ironic for you to not go forward because the name of the show is The Voice. But Juliet, your voice -- listen, your voice is like art imitating life and life isn't perfect, you know what I'm saying? We're all in it in life," Green told the two ladies.
"And this is why America -- their energy is invested in Juliet and I cannot argue with America and the support that they've given Juliet. So, as tough as this is, I have to go with Juliet."
In addition to Parker and Simms, Tony Lucca, a singer from Waterford, MI, and Jamar Rogers, a singer from Bronx, NY, also advanced to the competition's semifinalist round.
Lucca -- who is one of the two remaining members on Levine's team -- and Rogers, who is one of the two singers left on Green's team, automatically advanced to the next round and did not have to perform a survival song after The Voice host Carson Daly revealed they had received the most home viewer votes of anyone on their team following Monday night's performance show.
