The Amazing Race eliminated David O'Leary and Connor O'Leary during Sunday night's fifth broadcast of the CBS reality competition's 22nd season.

The "Father and Son" team were forced to withdraw from The Amazing Race due to injury and formally eliminated from the around-the-world competition by host Phil Keoghan after they went directly to the Race's fourth Pit Stop at the Vietnam National Museum of History without having completed any of the leg's tasks along the way.

"Dave and Connor, so you've decided to come to the mat?" Phil asked the pair, who became the fourth team eliminated from the competition.

"We have. It's an amazing experience, but unfortunately for us at this point -- I don't want to let my son down, but it's come to an end," Dave replied.

"My dad has never let me down and he never could let me down. He's amazing and he's my best friend, he's my hero. We should've stopped after the second leg but he's a hard [working] man and wouldn't stop," Connor said in tears.

"Dave and Connor, I'm very sorry to tell you that you have been eliminated from the Race. But you should hold your head up and feel very proud of how you have run this Race," Phil told them.

"I would rather run four legs with you than win the million dollars with anybody else," Connor said, hugging his father.

"I really am sorry, Connor," Dave said in tears after telling his son that he loved him.

"I'm not," Connor confirmed.

Dave and Connor's decision to withdraw from the Race ultimately prevented the elimination of "Married Couple" Chuck McCall and Wynona McCall, who subsequently finished the fourth leg in last place.

"I love her. We may have bit off more than we can chew, but I'm proud she's standing her beside me," Chuck said. "We're going to start fresh on the next leg. I promise I'm going to listen to her, let her voice her opinion. We do certainly need to make the most of our opportunity right now and carry on with this Race."

The fifth episode of The Amazing Race's 22nd edition began with Dave and Connor departing the third Pit Stop in first place at 5:01AM. Dave said his surgeon had suggested he should go under the knife within seven days of tearing his Achilles tendon, so the team anticipated having to exit the Race early.

"Best Friends" Pamela Chien and Winnie Sung departed at 5:21AM, and they were soon followed by "Newlyweds" Max Bichler and Katie Bichler at 5:25AM. Dave and Connor ran into the two teams and let them know they were going to be eliminated at the end of the leg.

"Friends and Country Singers" Caroline Cutbirth and Jennifer Kuhle left the third Pit Stop next at 7:20AM and were followed by "Friends and YouTube Hosts" Joey Graceffa and Meghan Camarena at 9:06AM, "Roller Derby Moms" Mona Egender and Beth Bandimere at 9:12AM, "Hockey Brothers" Bates Battaglia and Anthony Battaglia at 9:14AM, and Chuck and Wynona at 9:23AM.

Mona and Beth were still planning to honor their alliance with Joey and Meghan.

The teams' first set of clues instructed them to fly north more than 2,000 miles to the ancient city of Handi, Vietnam. Once there, they must make their way to the center of the city and find Rap Cong Nhan Theater in which they'd receive their next clue inside Gallery 42. In addition, a Double U-Turn would be awaiting them in the leg.

A Double U-Turn allows two teams the opportunity to slow down two other teams, forcing them to perform both sides of the Detour task. The teams responsible for U-Turning their opponents would remain anonymous in this case.

Pam and Winnie, Max and Katie and Dave and Connor all booked seats on the earliest available flight. Caroline and Jennifer got stuck with a 9:30PM arrival in Handi, and all the other teams eventually joined the girls on that flight.

The first three teams arrived at Gallery 42 around 7:34PM but learned it had closed at 6PM, so they had to wait until it opened again at 9AM the next morning -- losing their lead in the leg. One by one the other teams trickled into the gallery.

Pam and Winnie didn't let the rest of the teams know Dave and Connor were disqualifying themselves because they wanted to make them all assume the "Father and Son" team were racing behind them. Pam and Winnie believed the strategy would slow most of the teams down.

While they were waiting for the gallery to open, Max started making fun of Jessica Hoel and John Erck for getting eliminated in the leg prior with the Express Pass in their possession. Max's behavior angered Joey and Meghan, but the team decided not to vocalize their opinion because they wanted to avoid putting a target on their backs.

Meanwhile, Dave and Connor arrived at the Pit Stop, the Vietnam National Museum of History, and had their exchange with Phil. They exited the Race disappointed but thankful and appreciative of one another.

Before Gallery 42 opened at 9AM, Caroline and Jennifer led the pack in deciding to eventually U-Turn either Mona and Beth or Joey and Meghan because those two teams were on the outside of the majority alliance, who had all become good friends.

It then became time for one member of each team to complete a Roadblock task.

For the Roadblock, the team members had to watch the performance of a patriotic Vietnamese song. At the end of it, the dancers would reveal the words of a celebrated quote. After memorizing all the words of the phrase, teams would then have five minutes before the next performance began to run to a nearby room and find the quote hidden on one of many political posters. When one of the judges told them they were word perfect, they'd receive their next clue.

Jennifer opted to do the Roadblock task for her team and Meghan, Anthony, Mona, Katie, Chuck, and Pam soon joined her.

Pam and Winnie finished the task before any of the other teams. She was then followed by Chuck and Wynona, Caroline and Jennifer, Joey and Meghan, Mona and Beth, and Bates and Anthony.

At one point, Meghan found the right poster after numerous attempts but decided to help Mona find hers before taking off. However, Meghan's decision forced her to endure watching the performance again with a few of the other teams.

After completing the Roadblock, the teams then learned they must make their way to Cong Vien Thong Nhat and take part in a Vietnamese bamboo dance to receive their next clue. The bamboo dance seemed pretty simple for the most part, as the teams had to hold hands and walk over moving bamboo poles.

Pam and Winnie conquered the task quickly and efficiently, and they were soon followed by Max and Katie, Joey and Meghan, Bates and Anthony, Mona and Beth, Chuck and Wynona -- who had to do the dance over and over again -- and finally Caroline and Jennifer, who had gotten lost on the way to the task.

The teams' next set of clues instructed them to complete one of two Detour tasks: "Make Your Move" or "Make Your Meal."

"Make Your Move" required the teams to set up a giant chess game using human pieces scattered around a park. Referring to a Chinese chess game, they had to choose four chess pieces and match them to their human counterparts that were wearing symbols of the same shape and color and then place the human chess pieces along with four giants staffs in the corresponding positions on the lifesize chessboard. Once they had placed each piece in the right position, the chess master would hand them their next clue.

"Make Your Meal" required the teams to make Vietnam's national dish called Pho. They had to pick up two empty baskets and two baskets of live chickens outside a temple and then navigate a bustling market to purchase all the ingredients in the amount stated on a shopping list. They must then carry everything to a cooking station where the ingredients would be weighed and then prepare two bowls of the dish to the satisfaction of the chef, who would hand them their next clue upon completion.

Pam and Winnie opted to try the "Make Your Move" task along with Joey and Meghan, Bates and Anthony, Mona and Beth and Caroline and Jennifer. Max and Katie and Chuck and Wynona attempted the "Make Your Meal" task instead.

Pam and Winnie finished the Detour task first. They were soon followed by Bates and Anthony, Joey and Meghan, Max and Katie, Mona and Beth, Caroline and Jennifer, and Chuck and Wynona.

When Pam and Winnie ripped open their next clue, they learned they must make their way to B-52 Memorial, the sight of the wreckage of a B-52 bomber shot down during the Vietnam War, where they'd find their next clue.

Once there, Pam and Winnie discovered the Double U-Turn board. They chose to U-Turn Joey and Meghan, going along with the original plan of their large alliance. They then headed to the Pit Stop at the Vietnam National Museum of History.

Joey and Meghan got to the Double U-Turn board next and realized they had been U-Turned. Joey cried about the unfortunate circumstance and Meghan noted they just couldn't seem to catch a break. To ensure their own safety in the game, Joey and Meghan opted to U-Turn Chuck and Wynona.

Bates and Anthony then arrived at the board, and they were soon followed by Max and Katie, Mona and Beth, and Caroline and Jennifer -- all of whom were not U-Turned and could not U-Turn anyone.

Meanwhile, Joey and Meghan attempted the other side of the Detour task with "Make Your Meal." Chuck and Wynona were also still working on that same task, their original task. Chuck and Wynona had forgotten to pick up the chickens, so they had to go back and correct their mistake.

Joey and Meghan then finished the second Detour task just as Chuck and Wynona finished up their first and were heading to the Double U-Turn board. Once Chuck and Wynona arrived at the B-52 Memorial, they knew Joey and Meghan had U-Turned them. They were discouraged but kept their cool and went off to do the "Make Your Move" task.

In the meantime, Pam and Winnie met Phil at the Pit Stop mat in first place and learned they had won a trip for two to Whistler, Canada. Max and Katie subsequently arrived in second place and then Mona and Beth secured third place.

Following behind Mona and Beth were Bates and Anthony in fourth, Caroline and Jennifer in fifth and Joey and Meghan in sixth place.

After Chuck and Wynona completed the "Make Your Move" Detour task, they finally made it to the Pit Stop in seventh -- and last place -- place.

"Chuck and Wynona, I'm sorry to tell you that you are the last team to arrive," Phil told the team.

"We figured that," Wynona said.

"I know you wanted to be on this Race really bad," Phil noted.

"Still do," Chuck said.

"Do you feel a lot of pressure from Chuck to stay in this Race?" Phil asked Wynona.

"I feel I'm probably the weakest player on all the teams. It's tough, but we've been doing it," Wynona said in tears.

"I'm proud of her. I'm very proud of her," Chuck said.

"Chuck and Wynona, Dave and Connor had to withdraw from the Race, which means you are still in The Amazing Race and you are officially team No. 7," Phil explained.

"Thank you," Wynona said.

"Thank you? I feel like I've sent you to some terrible, torturous..." Phil began.

"It is torture for us but we still want to do it," Wynona said.
