'Work Out' episode addressing Doug Blasdell's illness airing April 10

By Christopher Rocchio, 04/09/2007

The fact that reality television is based on real-life situations will be reinforced to Bravo viewers during Tuesday night's episode of Work Out when trainers at Jackie Warner's Sky Sport and Spa in Beverly Hills, CA learn one of their own has been hospitalized.

Shortly after production began on Work Out's second season last November, Warner received some startling information about 44-year-old Sky Sport and Spa trainer Doug Blasdell.

"Doug is in the hospital," Warner tells the rest of her staff during Tuesday night's episode. "The doctors have actually put him into a drug-induced coma."

Blasdell passed away on January 22 -- within two months of when that scene was filmed -- reportedly due to kidney failure.  However since Blasdell had been participating in Work Out's second season production, he remained part of the cast.

"The first thing that crossed my mind was how do we deal with Doug's death," Warner told The Associated Press on Monday. "I didn't want to exploit it, but we had to address it. This was a reality that we had to deal with, and we're still dealing with it. But this is a reality show. He couldn't just disappear."

The Work Out episode will air at 10PM ET/PT on Bravo.
