Fox cuts 'American Idol 4' results show back to thirty minutes

By Reality TV World staff, 03/02/2005

After weeks of more and more American Idol programming, someone at Fox appears to have finally said "enough."

Fox announced yesterday that effective immediately, Idol's Wednesday elimination results show -- already bloated when running for only 30 minutes -- will be cut back from the full-hour format used for last week's initial results show to a still-padded 30-minute format.

Whether the scheduling change is a reaction to critics who felt that last week's lengthy results show was "unnecessarily cruel" to contestants or simply a result of the fact that the all-important February Nielsen ratings sweep period conveniently concluded on Monday is unclear, as Fox announced no official reason for the change.

The big beneficiary of the move (at least initially) will be The Simple Life 3. Rather than airing at 8:30PM ET/PT as the American Idol results show lead-in, The Simple Life 3 will now air in the highly-prized 9:30PM ET/PT post-Idol time period.

The Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie shouldn't get too comfortable in the cushy spot however, as the network's current plans still call for moving its new Life on a Stick sitcom into the time period beginning March 23.
