Former 'Survivor' winner Jenna Morasca quits 'All Stars' to be with dying mother
By Reality TV World staff, 02/13/2004
Millions of viewers tuned into the third episode of Survivor All-Stars expecting to see more of the bickering and difficult living conditions that have marked the first two episodes of the series -- only to discover that their normal CBS Survivor broadcast had been secretly replaced with FOX's When Animals Attack, a Gilligan's Island edition of TBS' House Rules, and capped off with a heart-tugging Lifetime movie segment.
The very special episode of Survivor All-Stars began with a Richard Hatch "man bites shark" segment (somehow we kinda thought it was a safe assumption that the 250+ pound former Survivor winner had the advantage of the 2-foot long shark all the way -- but maybe that was just us.)
Following the "man bites dog"-style segment, the three tribes participated in a Home Depot-sponsored shelter building reward challenge -- which, surprise, surprise, the tribe which contains a professional construction worker won handily (so much for "roughing it" in the Pearl Islands... checker tables? rock gardens? swings?) Guess they didn't have time to finish the cement pond.
Once the reward challenge was decided and the time for the immunity challenge came, in a segment milked by the producers to make sure there wasn't a dry eye among viewers, former Survivor: The Amazon winner Jenna Morasca decided to quit the game after little more than a week to return home and be with her ill mother, who's on-going battle with breast cancer had apparently taken a turn for the worse before Jenna's departure. Saying that she regretted her earlier decision to leave home to participate in the competition, Jenna departed the game immediately, resulting in no immunity challenge and three more days of participation for the other fifteen players remaining in the game. In hindsight, her move was clearly the proper decision, since, as we reported last fall, Carla Morasca died on November 19, 2003, only days after Jenna's return home.
So what happens next week? Are the shelters really significantly damaged? Is romance truly in the air? Will another previous Survivor winner be the next to leave the game? Check out our Survivor spoilers forum for the latest details on these and many other hot topics!
