Fresh on the heels of yesterday's news that Bachelorette Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter were married this weekend, comes the news that Andrew Firestone and Jen Schefft, the couple from the third Bachelor edition, have broken up -- and they announced their split on television.

In a statement released exclusively to the syndicated Extra program, Firestone said, "This is a decision we made together through long and thoughtful discussion. It is totally amicable and, though we care for each other deeply, we have come to realize that our future goals are different."

In response to those who might have doubted the strength of their relationship all along, Schefft added, "Our love for each other was genuine, but we confronted the same challenges as any other couple trying to make a relationship work day-to-day."

In an earlier interview with Extra three months ago, Firestone said he and Schefft "fall more in love with each other every day" but also hinted his new relationship did take some getting used to. In a statement that couldn't help but make viewers wonder if Firestone had ever been in a serious relationship previously, he said that the biggest challenge was "going from being very independent people to having somebody there. It's going from doing everything for myself to us." Schefft also noted that the "extra pressure" of being in the public spotlight was also a challenge. "Nothing is as private as it could be." she told "Extra."

Schefft hasn't said whether she'll move Chicago area in which she resided before moving into Firestone's San Francisco apartment.

Andrew and Jen join previous Bachelor couples Alex Michael and Amanda Marsh and Aaron Buerge and Helene Eksterowicz as having ended their relationship. Despite continuing media reports to the contrary, Bob Guiney and Estella Gardiner, the couple from the just-completed fourth edition of the series, deny reports that they also are no longer a couple, leaving newlyweds Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter as the program's only clear success story.
