The Amazing Race eliminated Melinda Papadeas and Erika Papadeas and also featured what might've been the "greatest comeback" in show history during the Season 37 episode that aired Wednesday night on CBS.

"Mother and daughter" Melinda and Erika made a classic The Amazing Race mistake and were the last team to arrive at the Pit Stop in Sofia, Bulgaria, resulting in their The Amazing Race elimination.

"We've loved it, thank you. It's been a gift... I'm so grateful to have spent this time with her. We never had that mother-daughter relationship growing up, so it was nice to spend this time together," Melinda told Phil.

"I am just so proud of my mom," Erika added.

"She killed every leg of this Race. There were a lot of physical things she pushed herself through, and it was just inspiring to watch... It was life changing."

The Amazing Race broadcast began with Alyssa and Josiah departing the Pit Stop in Elin Pelin, Bulgaria in first place at 7:34AM.

Brett and Mark were right on their heels leaving at 8:10AM, and Jonathan and Ana began racing the new leg at 8:33AM.

Han and Holden departed at 9:47AM, Melinda and Erika departed at 10:06AM, and then Carson and Jack departed Elin in last place at 11:15AM.

Teams were instructed to drive themselves 25 miles from the countryside to Sofia, the capital and largest city in Bulgaria.

Once in Sofia, teams would have to choose between heading straight to Lake Ariana or take the risk of going for the Express Pass. The team to win the Express Pass would be able to use it to skip any task they don't want to complete and then continue racing.

In order to win the Express Pass, participating teams had to walk across a path of fiery, hot coals.

Although they were in second place, Brett and Mark decided to skip the Express Pass and just head to the lake instead. Jonathan and Ana also decided to forego attempting the Express-Pass task.

"The Express Pass burned 40 minutes of our lead. It also burned my foot," Alyssa quipped.

Josiah admitted he hates hot things, even hot chocolate, and that this task was his "worst nightmare." However, Josiah gathered his strength and walked across the coals right after Alyssa showed it could be done with no problem.

Alyssa and Josiah therefore won the Express Pass.

When Brett and Mark arrived at Lake Ariana, the team learned they must pick up a cross from the shallow waters of the lake and return it to a priest for good luck and their next clue.

The task seemed simple, and so Brett and Mark quickly proceeded in first place to Russian Monument Square, where a vendor in a specific Klek shop awaited them with their next clue.

Brett and Mark were informed that all teams had to race on foot and were not allowed to take any taxis for the rest of the leg.

Alyssa and Josiah found their cross in second place at the Saint Jordan Festival, and they were then followed by Jonathan and Ana in third place.

Once at the Klek shop, teams must make their way to St. Kliment Ohridski Central Library to find their next clue. Brett and Mark decided to take a bus to their next stop.

At the library, first-place Racers Brett and Mark were instructed to use a Cyrillic Cypher to figure out what was written on the ancient pages of a book. Once a team translated a passage into English correctly, they'd be given their next clue.

Melinda and Erika -- who got a little lost driving earlier in the leg -- read their clue incorrectly after finding their cross at the festival.

Erika thought they had to take taxis for the rest of the leg when taxis actually weren't allowed at all.

When Alyssa and Josiah arrived at the library in second place, Brett and Mark were on their way out after finishing the task.

Brett and Mark headed to the Museum of Socialist Art, where they'd find their next clue in the sculpture garden.

Jonathan and Ana managed to jump into second place after they finished the library task faster than Alyssa and Josiah. Before Jonathan and Ana left the library, they gave Alyssa and Josiah a tip -- flipping over the cypher onto its other side -- that probably saved their race.

Alyssa and Josiah were very thankful that they didn't lose more time or were forced to use their Express Pass earlier than anticipated.

Melinda and Erika arrived at the library in fifth place, and they teamed up with Han and Holden to hopefully get the task done faster.

Carson and Jack were still racing in last place at this point, but when the men arrived at the library, two teams -- Han and Holden as well as Erika and Melinda -- were still there working on the passage.

Once Carson and Jack arrived, Han and Holden decided to ditch Melinda and Erika and try to help the guys instead.

Carson and Jack figured out the passage before the two other teams, and once Han and Holden were about to leave behind them, the siblings chose not to give Melinda and Erika any more tips.

The teams' next destination was the Central Military Club, where they'd receive their next set of clues.

Brett and Mark got there first, and it became time for a Roadblock task.

One member of each team was required to dress in costume and link up with local dancers to learn -- and ultimately perform -- a complicated Bulgarian folk dance.

Mark joyfully took on the dancing Roadblock task, as he had been waiting for an opportunity like this one, and he was soon joined by Josiah, who said he loves to dance.

Ana also decided to learn the dance routine, and she was soon joined by Jack, Holden and Melinda.

Mark completed the Roadblock in no time, and so he and Mark proceeded to the Pit Stop at St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral on sacred grounds.

Brett and Mark raced to the Pit Stop and met The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan in first place. For winning the leg, they received $7,500 each.

Alyssa and Josiah were declared Team No. 2, and Jonathan and Ana arrived at the Pit Stop in third place.

At this point in the leg, Carson and Jack finished the dancing task before Holden and Melinda.

Carson and Jack met Phil on the mat in fourth place, and Phil admitted he was speechless by their comeback.

"This might be one of the greatest comeback stories in Amazing Race history," Phil announced.

Han and Holden completed the leg in Sofia in fifth place.

When Melinda and Erika made it to the Pit Stop in sixth -- and last -- place, it was pretty obvious the women knew what was coming.

"What's the No. 1 rule on the Race?" Phil asked the team.

"Read your clue," Erika said.

"But today, you misread the clue," Phil revealed.

Melinda and Erika then read their clue and discovered it had instructed them not to travel by taxi. They were therefore eliminated from The Amazing Race.
