A former contestant on Bravo's reality series, "Top Chef," was allegedly the victim of a gay-bashing incident in a posh section of Long Island, N.Y.

A lawyer for Josie Smith-Malave, an openly gay woman and contestant on the show's second season, said she and some friends were attacked by a group of about 10 young people who hit them spat upon them and shouted anti-gay epithets at them, TMZ.com reported Wednesday.

Smith-Malave said the incident happened during the Labor Day weekend after she and her pals were asked to leave the bar Partners in Sea Cliff.

Nassau County police tell TMZ the episode is still under investigation.

The Miami native formerly played on a team for the Independent Women's Football League.
