"American Idol" darling Chris Daughtry has decided to do his own thing, declining a chance to front Fuel.

The 26-year-old McLeansville, N.C., native told the Charlotte (N.C.) Observer he probably would announce his plans after the summer's "American Idol" concert tour.

Daughtry told "People" about the Fuel offer shortly after he was voted off the show and at the time seemed cool to the idea, saying he had to think it over.

Daughtry had been invited to replace Brett Scallions, who quit in February.
