The Bachelor star Sean Lowe is reportedly remaining celibate despite his engagement to the woman he picked at the conclusion of his edition of the ABC reality dating series.

Lowe, who had previously been rumored to be a born-again virgin, is keeping his stance on abstaining from sex until marriage even though it has frustrated his new fiancee, Us Weekly reported in its latest issue.

"Sean doesn't want to have sex until he's married," a show source told Us. "He's a born-again virgin. It's very important to him."

Lowe "had sex during college," said a source close to Lowe, who graduated Kansas State University in 2006. But he reportedly became very religious in his twenties after moving back to Dallas and getting closer to his family and their Christian roots, ultimately deciding it was the moral choice to refrain from premarital relations.

"His family is extremely religious and doesn't believe in sex before marriage, so Sean became celibate," explained the show source.

Lowe proposed to his selected bachelorette in November as part of The Bachelor's seventeenth-season finale that will air next month. Since late last year, the pair have allegedly been following Lowe's intimacy rules and his fiancee has been struggling to maintain her self-control around the tall blonde-haired, blue-eyed catch.

"She wasn't celibate going in to The Bachelor, so this is a big change. She's dying to do it. Waiting is tough," said the show source.

Lowe, however, is apparently content with his unwavering celibacy choice.

"I'm at a point where, hey, I'm gonna try to live my life the right way, as I see it... It's just a choice I've made," the Bachelor recently told Access Hollywood Live, according to Us.

Show producers and its bachelorettes reportedly had no idea Lowe was a born-again virgin when the season began taping in September despite his obvious religious values. A production insider explained that sex just "wasn't discussed," as it seems to be a normal occurrence for every Bachelor or Bachelorette towards the end of each season.

A source told Us that eighth-season The Bachelorette star Emily Maynard even had sexual relations with winner Jef Holm and runner-up Arie Luyendyk Jr., although the editing suggested otherwise.

"[The guys] compared notes about their time alone with Emily," said a The Bachelorette source, adding that Lowe definitely didn't get intimate with the single mom from Charlotte, NC and got teased for it. "Jef and Arie asked Sean, 'You didn't hook up with her?' and Sean was like, 'No.' He was completely surprised that they had. Arie and Jef were teasing him."

As for his own The Bachelor season, Lowe's Final 3 bachelorettes "were ready" to have sex with him when it became time for their fantasy suite dates in which the cameras wouldn't be around to tape everything, said the insider. But instead of sleeping together, Lowe reportedly found the dates an opportune time to reveal to the ladies he intends to keep his clothes on until the day he says "I do."

"The women didn't see it coming. They were disappointed. But they understood Sean's decision and respected him for it. They realized how important celibacy is to him," explained the insider.

Lowe allegedly had other plans in mind on how to utilize his special private time with the three ladies.

"I wanted to use [the fantasy suites] as time to spend together alone, off camera, uninterrupted," Lowe told Us in December. "It's valuable time, and it's time that I didn't want to bypass. It's just an awesome opportunity to get to know those women a lot better."

Lowe attended college on a football scholarship in 2002 but, even then, "[he] wasn't a big partier," former teammate Derek Marso told Us. "He was always respectful around girls, and he made it known that religion was a big part of his life."

Lowe's relationship history is apparently consistent with Marso's claims and his pre-Bachelor dating approach. He dated Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Brooke Sorenson for three years beginning in 2007, and a Lowe pal told Us they "never had sex." His next girlfriend Ryan Ray, another former Dallas cheerleader, dated in 2010 for six months and she confirmed to the magazine their "relationship was pure."

Added Ray, "We attended church and spent a ton of time with his amazing family. He's a strong Christian man, which is what drew me to him."

Although those relationships didn't work out, according to Lowe's personal trainer Sagi Kalev, it's different with his current fiancee. "Sean is very happy with this girl," Kalev said. "His family is supporting him, and Sean believes they are meant to be."

While Lowe is apparently set in his moral ways, the show source told Us his decision to refrain from having sex with his fiancee might create some unnecessary tension.

"[The Bachelor's decision] can be a stress on a relationship. They need to see how the physical aspect affects them in the long run," said the show source, insisting that's why the couple isn't rushing to the altar.

"They're waiting until the finale airs and they can make their public debut as a couple before deciding on any next steps. Sean and his fiancee want to see how they work in the real world."

Lowe's remaining bachelorettes heading into next week's hometown dates broadcast are AshLee Frazier, Catherine Giudici, Desiree Hartsock, and Lindsay Yenter.
