The diatribe of Cleese's character Reg said, "All right, but apart from sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?"

Blockbuster's poll chose as the second funniest scene: the flatulent cowboys eating beans around the campfire from Mel Brooks's comedy "Blazing Saddles," followed by Meg Ryan's fake orgasm in "When Harry Met Sally," reported from the British comedy Web site, Chortle Tuesday.

The other scenes chosen were: the finest wines available to humanity in "Withnail & I," the apple pie sequence in "American Pie," the laxatives in "Dumb and Dumber," the hair gel scene in "There's Something About Mary," the black knight in "Monty Python And The Holy Grail," Steve Martin's Ruprecht scene in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and big pants in "Bridget Jones's Diary."
