Police in Massachusetts said a man is facing charges after allegedly leaving a 2-year-old child in a car early Friday so he could buy a 51-inch television.

Springfield, Mass., Police said Anthony Perry, 34, allegedly left his girlfriend's 2-year-old son in a car so he could go inside the Springfield Plaza K-Mart and purchase a 51-inch television around 1:30 a.m. Friday, WWLP-TV, Springfield, reported Friday.

Perry was found at his home with his new TV and police said they don't know how he was able to get his purchase home without the car he took to the store.

Police Capt. Cheryl Claprood said Perry denied leaving the toddler in the car, claiming the child wandered off in the store. However, he never contacted police or reported the boy missing.

Police said the boy was asleep when they forced their way into the car to retrieve him. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center for examination.

The boy's mother told police she was working at the time and her boyfriend was babysitting.

Perry is facing a charge of reckless endangerment to a child, police said.

The Department of Children and Families has been notified.
