U.S. music producer Timbaland said he is rooting for Britney Spears to make a comeback, People.com reported Friday.

"I would love Britney to have a smash; it would be the greatest comeback ever," he said on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show Friday. "I think it would be phenomenal but I think she's got to be connected with her family. She can't do it alone."
Spears has come under fire in recent months for her hard-partying ways, erratic behavior and alleged poor treatment of family and friends.
Although he throws his support behind Spears, Timbaland also cautioned it might be hard for her to live up to the hype surrounding her upcoming performance on the MTV Video Music Awards.
"Britney's cool, but I think that ... it was too much," he told Seacrest. "Now it's like, 'OK, Britney's opening; she got a new song.' ... It's kind of dull. It's kind of flat-lined."
