The Hollywood Reporter reports that Fox's American Idol was selected as "Program of the Year" at the 19th annual Television Critics Association ("TCA") Awards, held Saturday night in Los Angeles.

The TCA, founded in 1978, consists of over 200 media critics and writers from the United States and Canada. Its annual awards tend to honor shows that are "overlooked" by other end-of-season awards. This is the second straight year that a Fox program has won Program of the Year; the 2002 winner was 24, which was also nominated for the award this year. Other nominees, according to TV Guide Canada, were Boomtown, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Wire.
