CBS has reportedly cooked up a new culinary competition series.
The amateurs will have a staff of family and friends while cooking their classic recipe, according to The Reporter, which added the veteran chefs will have to make their own version of the same dish before judges decide on a winner.
Beat the Chefs is being produced by Relatively Real, with Tim Forman serving as executive producer. Forman, a former Extreme Home: Makeover Edition producer who recently re-teamed with ABC on Find My Family, has previously produced Armed & Famous and Kid Nation for CBS but neither series was renewed for a second season. In addition, he also produces TLC's Police Women, a non-celebrity Armed & Famous-like reality series that follows female police officers as they juggle working on the force with the needs of their families. CBS is only the latest broadcast network currently working on a culinary-themed reality series starring amateurs. In November, Fox ordered Masterchef, which will feature Gordon Ramsay overseeing a group of wannabe chefs with no food industry experience who are trying to take their kitchen hobby to a professional level; while NBC ordered America's Next Great Restaurant, which will follow amateur contestants as they vie for the opportunity to open a new restaurant chain.
