Bachelor in Paradise host Chris Harrison has explained his decision to kick Chad Johnson off the show.

"I wasn't really scared for anybody. I don't think he was going to hurt anybody -- although he threatens violence and says horrible things -- [but] he was taking away from everybody's chances to actually make this work," Harrison told reporters on the set of Bachelor in Paradise in Mexico in June, according to E! News.

"He was just a black cloud hanging over everything. He had really been verbally abusive to some of the staff, some of our crew and was rude to me."

In Tuesday night's premiere of Bachelor in Paradise 3, Johnson became intoxicated, called Lace Morris a horrible word, pushed people around, trashed things around the resort, passed out on the beach, and finally woke up the next morning with very little remorse -- and no underwear.

The worst of his actions? The sweet Sarah Herron accused Johnson of being verbally abusive and disrespectful to women, which resulted in the Bachelorette villain yelling out, "F-ck that one armed b-tch!... Suck a d-ck." (Johnson has since apologized to Herron, although it's unclear whether she'll accept it.)

When Harrison approached the cast of Bachelor in Paradise in the morning to discuss Johnson's offensive words and crazy antics, the host was expecting a conversation that did not happen.

"It was a chance for [Chad] to be contrite... he was really glib and really arrogant and really pissed me off," Harrison admitted.

"He was a bit of a smartass... in the middle of it, I just made a decision, I'm like, 'You know what? I'm done. You're out.' Again, that's the beauty of the power I have here in Paradise. I see how you're making everybody feel, now you've pissed me off, I'm done. Get out of my house."

Johnson didn't go out without a fight, as he cussed out Harrison and made fun of him for going to bed with a robe on and mimosa in hand. "F-ck you, Chris Harrison!" Johnson shouted, pointing his finger at the host.

After his unflattering stint on The Bachelorette starring JoJo Fletcher, Harrison wanted to give Johnson a chance to "redeem" himself in Paradise. After all, Johnson claimed he was largely misunderstood, and despite his violent threats, much of Bachelor Nation still adored him.

Johnson's drunken rant therefore came as a huge surprise to Harrison considering the real estate agent from Tulsa, OK, arrived in Paradise with a heavy heart and excellent attitude of wanting to find love.

"He came back to Paradise, the first thing he did was, 'Chris, I'm very sorry. I'm not that person. I'm back here to apologize to you, to the producers on my behavior, turning over a new leaf, I want this to work,'" recalled Harrison, who initially agreed to Johnson's participation because he believes in "second chances."

But Johnson obviously didn't take advantage of that second chance. If anything, he made himself look much worse.

"We gave him enough rope to hang himself, but he did," Harrison said. "This is why I'm not angry at him, I'm not mad at him, I don't dislike him at all. There is a reason he behaves the way he does. I would go so far as to say it comes from some sort of hurt insecurity... there is an issue there."

Harrison explained that Johnson seems to reach a point of no return, and once there, he'll eventually regret his actions.

"After he goes to a certain length, you see him get very sad and very sorrowful and very apologetic, and you can tell he doesn't like that, he doesn't want to be that person. That's the guy I wanted to come back," Harrison said.

Tuesday night's Bachelor in Paradise broadcast left off with a cliffhanger and it appears Johnson will be back in one way or another next week.
