The Apprentice 4 - Episode 2 Summary

'Perfunctory Punctuation and Capricious Capitalization' By ARnutz
Original Airdate: September 29, 2005

Previously on The Apprentice:

Missed the first episode? Well, Melissa was delusional and got fired, Randal’s grandma passed away and the men kicked butt on the task. I won’t bore you with all the details. Instead just go read last week’s fabulous summary from Incognito9!!!

Back in the Suite:

The teams are discussing who will be fired between Melissa and Kristi. Team Excel’s Chris says that it’s to their advantage if Melissa returns because, you know, they want the weak players on the opposing team. All the ladies believe Melissa will be the one fired. Moments later, Kristi returns to the suite and it turns out, Chris doesn’t get his wish. Mark my words, this won’t be the last time this episode that Chris doesn’t get his wish!

The Task:

The next morning, the teams meet Mr. Trump on the rooftop of the Trump Park Avenue because we can’t have an episode of The Apprentice without the obligatory Trump’s Pet Project plug!

Trump says, “You are going to design an ad campaign for LAMB-BORE-GEE-NEE.” Yes, that’s right… LAMB-BORE-GEE-NEE! That’s how he says it. I can pretty much bet, those two Lamborghini execs were thinking, “…what’s with the stress on BORE??? our cars are not boring at all!”, ‘cause you know, that’s what I was thinking!

Anyway, after the task is presented, Excel (that the men’s team ~ which reminds me way too much of that spreadsheet software made by that monopoly of a software company) are already celebrating a victory! They are men, this is cars, Markus owns a car dealer, Chris is in advertising, blah, blah… Note to Excel: arrogance is not tolerated on the Apprentice, unless that arrogance comes from Trump himself!

On the way to meet with the Lamborghini execs, Chris appoints himself the PM for this task and nobody else really cares to step up. Of course, Chris’ ego wouldn’t have given them a chance! When they arrive, Chris says they don’t want to come up with any ideas until they know what the Lamborghini folks want. Meanwhile, Markus has a slogan in the works already! “Smooth as Silk”. Chris doesn’t like it, but humors Markus by telling him he’ll keep it in mind. Markus presents this idea for a slogan to the Lamborghini people and asks if it’s something they could see being used. One exec bluntly says, “NO!” and it’s dropped.

Over at Capital Edge, (the ladies team ~ which reminds me of those credit card commercials with the Vikings running around all over saying, “What’s in your wallet?”) Marshawn is the useless PM, Alla is in charge of the video shoot because she is the most qualified, what with being an ex-stripper and all, and Kristi’s job is… well, it’s to bee-yotch and whine in confessionals about Marshawn’s job during the entire task!

The Lesson of the Week:

“Be flexible”

Donald tells us that in order to succeed in business, you need to be willing to adapt, show flexibility and be willing to make a change.

Ok Donald, got it! I think maybe you should have went with a lesson on arrogance this week, but let’s see how the candidates do with this lesson.

Back to the Task:

Excel will be renting an old Lamborghini and “morphing” it in their video to the new model. They are concerned that the cars may not drive by in the correct order so Markus gets on the walkie-talkie to talk to the driver and make sure the older car will drive by first. Josh tells us, in his best game show host imitation, that "Markus: you are the weakest link". Chris gets the walkie-talkie back from Markus and tells the drivers to completely ignore anything Markus says.

Meanwhile, over at Capital Edge, one of the 7 Jennifers (*waves* to Incognito9), Alla the ex-stripper and Kristi the whiner of the week are going off to edit the video for their ad campaign. They work for 10 hours and the useless PM Marshawn never shows up because she must help work on the print ads with the other 4 incompetents!

Back to Excel and we see Mark working with the “best in the business” guy. Mark decides that the word Italian looks funny with a capital “I” and decides that it’s better as a lowercase. He also decides that the phrase on one of the print ads with the green Lamborghini should read, “Green with envy.” ~ period instead of “Green with envy?” ~ question mark as Markus suggests. Markus asks, “Is the car green with envy?”

The next morning we see Randal up very early getting ready to go to Philadelphia for his grandmother’s funeral. He is grateful that he can spend the day with his family and pay his respects to his grandmother. He goes off in the helicopter that Trump provided for him. He makes it back just in time to go with the guys to the presentation at Lamborghini.
