Utopia's pioneers welcomed Cal into their society and in turn banned Katie from their new home during Friday night's broadcast of the new Fox reality series.

After the Utopians chose to exile Red Vanwinkle, two newcomers arrived and the community welcomed Katie and Cal. Katie is a 29-year-old animal rescuer and single mom of two children from Sacramento, CA. Cal is a 39-year-old farmer and philosopher from Portland, OR.

The "Newtopians" had one week to impress the pioneers, and while they became full-time members of the utopian community, only one could be chosen to stay for good.

Katie's a pretty woman, who caught the attention of Josh Johnston, but she rubbed many people the wrong way. Cal was very useful on the land and had a positive energy about him, but could be seen as bossy at times.

When it became decision time, Katie and Cal had to state their case as to why they deserved to remain in utopia. Instead of talking herself up, she went on a bit of a rant about how she didn't feel people were helping her and the animals weren't being treated well. Although she claimed she's nurturing, Katie came across demeaning, which she later apologized for.

Cal, on the other hand, worked the garden well and had leadership qualities about him the pioneers admired. He believed in harmony and seemed to have more useful skills than Katie.

Several people did vote to keep Katie around, but it just wasn't enough. Cal therefore got to stay in utopia.

The episode also featured Rob Hospidor marrying his fiancee Jessica after she paid a visit to his new environment.
