Stephanie Matto from Yonkers, NY, and Erika Owens from Port Augusta, Australia, were the first same-sex couple to ever appear on the 90 Day Fiance franchise after meeting online.

After months of getting to know each other, Stephanie traveled to Australia to finally meet Erika in person and hopefully take their romance to the next level. Stephanie was hopeful their love would blossom and then Erika would move to the United States on a K-1 visa.

But 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days' fourth season featured Stephanie and Erika spending most of the time together bickering, fighting and cry, with just a few romantic moments in between.

Stephanie found herself jealous of Erika's past and the fact Erika had once hooked up with one of her friends.

The girls also came to realize their lifestyles were very different and Stephanie turned out to be much more conservative and insecure than Erika ever would have guessed based on Stephanie's sexy social-media content.

Although Erika introduced Stephanie to her parents as her girlfriend, Stephanie broke up with Erika towards the end of her trip to Australia after an explosive fight in which Erika had apparently concealed the fact she had an on-again, off-again 10-year relationship with a woman.

Stephanie felt she couldn't trust Erika, and the pair had realized their lifestyles and personalities were far too different to complement one another.

On the Season 4 Tell-All reunion special that aired in June 2020, the girls were basically at each other's throats through videochat. (The reunion filmed remotely with cast members participating via videoconference due to the coronavirus pandemic).

"I don't think Steph is a bad person, but also, I just don't want to be friends," Erika noted on the show.

When asked if Stephanie in Australia was the Stephanie she had met online, Erika admitted she felt "blindsided" and "demonized" by Stephanie, who always made her feel like she was "doing something wrong."

Stephanie in turn called Erika "a massive narcissist" and "very self-centered."

"Your life is all about you," Stephanie shouted at Erika.

Stephanie said Erika never wanted to get to know her better, but Erika accused Stephanie of always playing the victim again.

"I'm sorry that I went out there and wasted your time and made you feel like you were misled. That wasn't my intention," Stephanie said.

"I do feel like my time was wasted. I am worthy of trust and you made me feel like I wasn't, Steph... I had been nothing but honest with you. You admitted yourself you have jealousy issues," Erika explained in tears.

Tell All host Shaun Robinson went on to ask the girls if they could envision becoming friends in the future.

"Absolutely not," Erika noted.

And Stephanie chimed in, "I think because there's so much hurt and emotion still that's, like, kind of raw and that we're dealing with, at the very best case scenario, we can be friends from afar."

"So support each other from a distance and that's it, and that's the most I can hope for," Stephanie added.

Stephanie later blasted Erika on Instagram, claiming Erika cared more about her relationship with 90 Day Fiance crew members than their own romance and Erika would never ask questions in attempt to get to know her better.

"There is PLENTY more I have bit my tongue on because personally, this whole Team Erika, Team Stephanie bullsh-t is dumb. We both lost. We both ended up hurt. We were both VERY different people with different lifestyles, communication styles, and love languages," Stephanie wrote after the show wrapped.

Stephanie has been criticized for being jealous and insecure, and one 90 Day Fiance fan even accused Stephanie of pretending to be bisexual in order to do the show.

"If I was truly not bisexual, WHY would I go on the show with a woman??? Why not fake it with a guy if that is who I was truly attracted to??? And if I was truly faking it, then why did it crash and burn?" Stephanie blasted critics.

In October 2021, discovery+ announced Stephanie would appear on the second season of 90 Day: The Single Life, which follows 90 Day Fiance alums as they resume dating following the failure of their prior 90 Day Fiance relationships

Season 2 of 90 Day: The Single Life premiered on the streaming service in November 2021 and concluded in February 2022.

Stephanie remained single at the end of the season, however when she appeared on The Single Life season's Tell-All reunion she claimed to have begun an amazing new relationship with an unidentified Frenchman who lives in Paris.
