The Biggest Loser producer Ben Silverman has reportedly teamed with comedian Bernie Mac to develop an NBC pilot called Welcome to the Family, a new reality series that revolves around couples with different religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds looking to get engaged.

"It's all about falling in love, family and learning how to accept someone despite cultural, economic or social differences," Silverman told The Hollywood Reporter recently. "We are thrilled that NBC is once again taking the lead in supporting innovative programming."  He added Welcome to the Family is "both intriguing and addictive."

Produced by Mac's MacMan Entertainment and Silverman's Reveille, Welcome to the Family was created by Katy Wallin, Greg Johnston, H.T. Owens and Steve Greener.  It will be executive produced by Mac and Silverman.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reveille had been developing the series internally when company-based producers Marc Abrams and Michael Benson -- who worked on Fox's The Bernie Mac Show -- helped get Mac involved with the project.

"We're huge fans of Bernie Mac as a comedian and of his show," Owens told The Hollywood Reporter, adding Welcome to the Family is "the first reality romantic comedy."

Mac will narrate Welcome to the Family, which on the surface sounds like a non-competitive version of ABC's Welcome to the Neighborhood reality series that was originally scheduled to premiere in July 2005.

Welcome to the Neighborhood featured seven diverse families competing to win a beautiful dream home with neighbors deciding who wins the competition.  However ABC pulled the series a few weeks before its premiere, citing subject matter "sensitivity."  While Fox Reality wanted to broadcast the shelved series and ABC still considered airing it throughout the summer, Welcome to the Neighborhood never made it to on-air.
