U.S. television producer Bruce Beresford-Redman has been charged with killing his wife Monica in Cancun in April, Mexican officials said.

The woman's body was found in a sewer near the resort where the couple had been staying with their two children while on vacation. Monica reportedly had been beaten and strangled.

ABC News said an arrest warrant for murder was issued Monday for Beresford-Redman.

Beresford-Redman is known for his work on the reality TV programs "Survivor" and "Pimp My Ride."

His attorney, Richard Hirsch, who told ABC News Beresford-Redman is not guilty, has said in the past he would fight the producer's extradition to Mexico if he is charged.

"I am devastated at (Monica's) loss and I am incensed at the suggestion that I could have had anything to do with her death," Beresford-Redman said in a statement. "I am innocent. My children have had one parent taken from them by a senseless act of violence. I implore the Mexican authorities not to take their remaining parent by a miscarriage of justice and to do what is right not just what is expedient."
