"We are eagerly awaiting the healthy and happy birth of our son Greyson James Carroll McCuddy," DioGuardi told People of the baby who's due in the coming weeks.
DioGuardi and McCuddy, who got married in 2009 and hoped to have children afterwards, reportedly considered surrogacy in addition to adoption because the songwriter and Broadway star has struggled with numerous failed IVF attempts and fertility problems for years.
After weighing their options, "We made a personal decision to try with a surrogate," DioGuardi said. "I asked someone we knew, a friend. And on the first try, it worked."
The singer -- who appeared on Idol's judging panel for the franchise's eighth and ninth seasons -- also told the magazine that she and McCuddy are extremely concerned about their surrogate's well being.
"Were praying for our surrogate, that she gets through this and that it's as easy on her as it can possibly be, because she's been a gem throughout the whole process," DioGuardi explained.
"I've got two people on my mind: her and the baby. She's given us this incredible gift."
