UPI News Service, 05/10/2006

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes brought their celebrity spotlight to the small town of Aberdeen, Wash., for a special screening of "Mission: Impossible III."

The blue-collar town of 17,000 -- best known as the home of the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain -- was star struck Tuesday night as the famous Hollywood couple walked the red carpet at a local mall, People magazine reported.

Wal-Mart photo processor Kevin McCoy told People he was shocked when he learned he had won a screening of "MI:3" for 200 friends via a trivia contest sponsored by Yahoo! and Paramount Pictures.

About 2,000 people flocked to the mall to watch Cruise and Holmes walk the 175-foot red carpet that had been borrowed from an event planner in Seattle.

The magazine said Cruise "autographed anything and everything" including photos, DVDs, baby clothes, baseball mitts and even the hood of a car.

McCoy was not the first contest winner to draw international stars to Aberdeen, however. Metallica visited an MTV concert winner in the logging town in 1996, People said.
