Sienna Miller says she accused family and friends of leaking personal information about her to the British media before she realized her phone was hacked.

Earlier this year, the actress reached a settlement with Rupert Murdoch's News International regarding stories his News of the World tabloid published about her based on conversations illegally obtained from her cellphone between 2005 and 2006.

She told The Independent newspaper in London she thought she had been betrayed by someone close to her before she figured out what was going on.

"I sat down in a room with my mother, my best friend, my sister, my boyfriend and said 'someone in this room is lying and selling stories and one of you has got to admit it,'" Miller told The Independent.

In part because of Miller's complaints, Scotland Yard has been investigating the phone-hacking scandal and has arrested 16 people. News of the World also closed down this summer.

Miller said she felt she had to stand up for herself because she believes Britain's tabloids have become "completely immoral."

"There was no consideration for you as a human being. You were successful, you were making money, therefore you deserved it and it was a very medieval way of behaving," said the 29-year-old British-American actress, who has appeared in the movies "Alfie,""Casanova" and "Factory Girl."

She also had high-profile relationships with actors Jude Law and Balthazar Getty.
