UPI News Service, 11/10/2005

A judge in Nashville has sent the drunken driving case of country singer Mindy McCready to the Davidson County (Tenn.) grand jury.

Judge John Aaron Holt said there was enough evidence to pursue the cases against McCready, 29, and James Shell, the Nashville Tennessean reported.

McCready was cited for driving with a suspended license and DUI May 6 after being pulled over for speeding. Shell was charged because police said he was intoxicated and let her drive his vehicle while impaired, the newspaper said.

The arresting officer testified during the preliminary hearing McCready begged him not to arrest her.

"She kept on stating, 'Don't do this to me. This is going to ruin my career. Please don't do this to me,'" he said.

McCready, who had a 1996 hit with "Guys Do It All the Time," still has to face charges of parole violation charge on an earlier drug conviction.
