Martin Scorsese begins shooting his first 3D movie in London

UPI News Service, 06/29/2010

Hollywood filmmaker Martin Scorsese has begun shooting "Hugo Cabret," his first 3D movie, in London, said GK Films and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

The live-action film reunites the director-producer with his "Shutter Island" star Ben Kingsley and frequent producing partner Graham King. Tim Headington and Johnny Depp also serve as producers.

Based on Brian Selznick's New York Times bestseller "The Invention of Hugo Cabret," the adventure movie co-stars Sacha Baron Cohen, Asa Butterfield, Chloe Moretz, Jude Law, Ray Winstone, Christopher Lee, Helen McCrory, Frances de la Tour and Richard Griffiths.

The screenplay is by John Logan, who penned Scorsese and King's celebrated drama "The Aviator."

"Hugo Cabret" tells the tale of an orphan boy living a secret life in the walls of a Paris train station. When Hugo encounters a broken machine, an eccentric girl, and the cold, reserved man who runs a toy shop, he is caught up in a magical, mysterious adventure that could put all of his secrets in jeopardy, a synopsis of the movie said.

The film is being shot at London's Shepperton Studios as well as on locations in London and Paris. It is scheduled for a December 2011 release in North America by Sony Pictures.
