Television audiences will soon be getting more of actor Mario Lopez -- the former Dancing With the Stars 3 runner-up has signed on to join Extra, the syndicated entertainment news television show.  Lopez will serve as a co-host on Extra's weekend edition and will also be a daily correspondent on the program.

"Mario is a rapidly rising star and a dynamic personality on and off camera," said Extra senior executive producer Lisa Gregorisch-Dempsey.  "I've had my eye on him for years, and I am thrilled to officially welcome him to the Extra family."

Lopez will be introduced on Extra during tonight's broadcast, and will make his official debut as part of the program's Golden Globe red-carpet coverage on Tuesday, January 16.

A former Saved by the Bell and Pacific Blue hot throb, Lopez was paired with partner Karina Smirnoff on the third Dancing with the Stars edition that ABC aired this past fall. Although they began the competition as the show's oddsmakers favorite, Lopez and Smirnoff eventually finished second to former Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith and partner Cheryl Burke in the season's finals.

In addition to his new Extra duties, Lopez will also host the 2007 Miss America Pageant, which will air live on Country Music Television on Monday, January 29 at 8PM ET/PT.  Lopez also recently signed a talent-holding deal with The CW.
