'Dancing' stars Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice waltzing over to CBS

By Christopher Rocchio, 01/17/2007

After spending years wowing audiences by eluding competitors with their footwork on first the football field and then on separate seasons of ABC's Dancing with the Stars, former NFL greats Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice have decided to tackle another challenge -- the situational comedy.

CBS has announced that Smith and Rice will each appear as CBS sitcom guest stars on "Super Monday," the primetime broadcast night following CBS' broadcast of Super Bowl XLI.

Smith, the NFL's all-time leading rusher and winner of Dancing with the Stars' third season, will guest star on How I Met Your Mother on Monday, February 5 at 8PM ET/PT.  The former Dallas Cowboys star will play himself when a star-struck Barney, played by Neil Patrick Harris, recognizes the 1993 NFL MVP on the streets of New York.

Rice, the NFL's all-time leading receiver who finished third on Dancing with the Stars second season, will guest star on The Class on Monday, February 5 at 8:30PM ET/PT.  In the episode, Duncan, Jon Bernthal's character, is shocked when he visits Nicole, played by Andrea Anders, and finds the 13-time Pro Bowl former San Francisco 49er working on a charity-event speech.

Both Smith and Rice won three Super Bowls during their NFL careers.  Smith was named Super Bowl MVP in 1993 and Rice received the same honor in 1988.
