McManus will run both the news and sports divisions starting Nov. 7, The Hollywood Reporter said Wednesday. Heyward, the longest-serving network news president, will stick around and help with the transition through the end of the year.

It was expected Heyward's contract would not be renewed after last year's "Memogate" scandal that resulted in Dan Rather's departure as anchor of the CBS Evening News, and the forced resignations of four employees, The Reporter said.

CBS has yet to name a replacement for Rather, who stepped down in March.

McManus is the son of legendary sportscaster Jim McKay He became the youngest vice president in the history of NBC Sports in 1982 and joined CBS as Sports president in 1996.
