Project Runway is going to Canada.

Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc., Insight Production Company Ltd. and FreemantleMedia Enterprises have announced that a Canadian version of the Emmy-nominated Bravo reality series will premiere on the newly-branded Slice network this fall.

"Our viewers have become addicted to the U.S. and U.K. versions of the Project Runway series, and it's truly a thrill to partner with Insight and FremantleMedia Enterprises to welcome Project Runway Canada to Slice(TM)," said Karen Gelbart, senior vice-president of lifestyle-channel content for Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc.

Similar to the U.S. version, Project Runway Canada will be a fashion design competition that features challenges in each episode to determine its winner.  The twist, of course, is that it will feature Canadian fashion designers creating clothing for the Canadian fashion industry.  A host for Project Runway Canada was not announced.

"We see this as a tremendous opportunity to shine a spotlight on the wealth of talented designers working in Canada's unique and successful fashion industry," said Gelbart.  "And, given that the world of fashion is competitive, catty and amazingly glamorous, we have no doubt the series will create memorable personalities that will have people talking week after week."

Beginning in March, Slice, currently still broadcasting as Life Network, also plans to debut the second season of Project Catwalk, the UK version of Project Runway. The newly-branded network also plans to broadcast the upcoming fourth season of Bravo's Project Runway -- the production of which has yet to be announced.  The original U.S. version of Project Runway, which was developed by Miramax and The Weinstein Company, has been sold to more than 100 countries worldwide by FreemantleMedia Enterprises.
