Big Brother determined the week's four nominations only to subsequently dethrone one of the two Head of Households, leaving two houseguests on the chopping block during Sunday night's ninth broadcast of the show's sixteenth season on CBS.

Big Brother's ninth episode began with the two new Head of Households -- Nicole Franzel, a 21-year-old recent nursing graduate from Ubly, MI, and Derrick Levasseur, a 30-year-old police sergeant from Providence, RI -- trying to figure out whom they should nominate for the week.

Devin Shepherd told Brittany Martinez and Jocasta Odom about the Bomb Squad alliance and it shocked the girls. He hoped they'd align with him because he told them information "in good faith."

Caleb Reynolds and Derrick determined their No. 1 target was Devin. The guys decided it wouldn't be smart to put Devin on the chopping block right away because he'd have two chances to take himself off with the upcoming Battle of the Block and Power of Veto competitions. The two HoH's wanted to backdoor Devin.

Meanwhile, Christine Brecht told Nicole she had been part of the Bomb Squad alliance in order to ensure Nicole trusted her. Nicole was actually turned off by the news but still felt she had to trust Christine, who was her best friend in the game.

Derrick and Nicole then discussed their potential nominations together. Nicole was hesitant to "talk game" with Derrick, but he assured her that he wanted to work with her and they played with similar strategies. They agreed nominating Christine and Cody Calafiore would result in too much blood on their hands as well as Hayden Voss -- who had an obvious crush on Nicole -- and Donny Thompson.

Nicole realized she could nominate Amber Borzotra just because Amber had put her up on the block the week prior. Nicole and Derrick also discussed nominating Caleb as to separate him from Amber because the couple were apparently getting very close. Jocasta was the obvious third nominee because she was a floater.

Caleb strategized with his loyal ally Derrick and decided to throw the upcoming Battle of the Block competition in order to keep Amber safe -- because she'd come off the block -- and also dethrone Nicole, leaving Derrick as the week's only HoH. Caleb knew it would be a risk because he'd remain on the chopping block, but he wanted to impress his "queen" and had been convinced Devin was the sole target.

Nicole then sought advice from Donny about whom to nominate, and Donny suggested Christine in order to break down the Bomb Squad alliance. Donny then revealed to Brittany and Jocasta how Caleb planned to throw the Battle of the Block competition. Nicole didn't like how Donny blabbed that information, and so she began to question whether Donny was a true, loyal ally.

In the end, Nicole nominated Amber and Donny. Derrick nominated Jocasta and Caleb for eviction. Derrick announced Caleb had volunteered to be in that position, and Devin knew what was going on.

"The backdoor's the only door," Devin announced.

Nicole soon regretted nominating Donny because he was her good friend and she knew he was a great person. She apologized to him and Donny assured her everything was fine.

Devin also tried to be "classy" and "make amends" with Derrick. Devin admitted it was his fault the Bomb Squad had blown up and complimented Derrick on making "a good game move." However, Derrick was convinced Devin had a few tricks up his sleeve and still wanted him gone.

"Team America" -- comprised of Derrick, Donny and Frankie Grande -- was also given their first mission of the season. Within four days, they were required to get three other houseguests to spread a rumor that someone in the house is related to a past Big Brother contestant.

Frankie came up with the idea of saying Zach Rance is Amanda Zuckerman's cousin because they're apparently both loud and from South Florida. The alliance hoped Caleb, Amber and Victoria Rafaeli would spread the rumor.

Donny and Amber ended up winning the wizard-themed "Battle of the Block" competition, leaving Caleb and Jocasta on the block. Caleb did throw the competition but made it look like he tried his best. Derrick didn't want people to figure out he was working with Caleb, however, Jocasta had a good idea about what was transpiring.
