Abhijeet Sawant won a three-year contract with Sony Entertainment Television, a car and a one-week trip to Switzerland. However, the Calcutta Telegraph reported that all 10 finalists appear to be winners with offers from Bollywood and to make live appearances.

Before becoming involved in "Indian Idol" last October, Sawant was the lead vocalist with his uncle's orchestra, performing at parties and weddings around Mumbai. The young man joked that he was a disappointment to his parents because he was not interested in school and only wanted to be an entertainer.

"Indian Idol" has become a national craze. In Mumbai, Abhijeet's victory set off celebrations, including loud firecrackers.
