ABC 'Hooking Up' star alleges show led to Army program discharge
UPI News Service, 07/15/2005
One of the women featured in ABC's documentary "Hooking Up" claims she was booted from the Army for appearing in the program.
Dr. Lisa Aptaker, 36, a gynecologist, is one of 11 New York women who were taped as they explored the world of Internet dating.
Aptaker told Friday's New York Daily News she was discharged from an Army medical training program when promos began airing for the show two weeks ago.
She said she has hired an attorney to help her get back into the Army.
An Army spokesman told the News "Hooking Up" had nothing to do with Aptaker's honorable discharge.
"We've had soldiers on 'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,' (and) on MTV," spokesman Paul Boyce said, adding laws prevent him from disclosing the reason Aptaker was let go.
