Teen Mom star Amber Portwood has given up custody of her child.

Portwood recently agreed to give ex-fiance Gary Shirley custody of Leah, their two-year-old daughter, Us Weekly reported Friday, correcting an earlier report in which it had stated Child Protective Services had taken the child away.

"Child Protective Services agreed it was safer for her to stay at Gary's because of all the photographers outside my house," the 20-year-old told Us Weekly.

The on-again, off-again couple has repeatedly broken engagements but reportedly split for good in the aftermath of a late September Teen Mom broadcast which featured Portwood punching and kicking Shirley during a violent argument.  Following the broadcast, local police began a domestic abuse investigation against Portwood that is still ongoing.

The teen mom told Us she has been taking medicine to battle her anxiety and depression and that being separated from her daughter "is the lowest of the low."

"Every night she's been saying, 'Where's Mommy?'" Portwood said.

However Portwood also admitted she needs to resolve her own issues before she can concentrate on being a good parent to Leah.

"I feel like everything is spinning out of control, and I'm trying to put the pieces back together," Portwood explained. "I have to get myself better so when I get my baby back, she sees her mom as happy as can be."
