Nigel Lythgoe has revealed the first self-proclaimed "shocking but great" So You Think You Can Dance seventh-season format change.

"First rule change. Only one dancer will leave the competition each week and not two," wrote Lythgoe in a Wednesday post to his Twitter account.

So You Think You Can Dance has ousted two contestants each week -- one male and one female -- dating all the way back to its Summer 2005 first season.

However that will change for its upcoming seventh season, which premieres May 27.

Last week Lythgoe had tweeted that there were some surprises in store for viewers. He subsequently elaborated that they would be "shocking, shocking, shocking format changes" -- more of which will apparently be revealed shortly.

"Many more changes will come by the end of this week," Lythgoe posted to his Twitter account on Wednesday.

Lythgoe has already clarified that the changes do not deal with the So You Think You Can Dance departure of judge Mary Murphy or the addition of former American Idol judge Paula Abdul to the panel.
