Clay Aiken apparently plans on being a working father.

The American Idol second-season runner-up will reprise his role of Sir Robin in Monty Python's Spamalot at the Shubert Theatre beginning September 19, Playbill reported Tuesday.

"Since leaving Spamalot in May, jokes have just not been funny. Food has lost its taste. The grass is no longer green; the sky no longer blue. And babies won't stop crying!!" the new dad joked in a statement obtained by Playbill

"I'm so excited about coming back to the funniest show in the world!"

Aiken's original run in Spamalot began last January and ended May 4 -- two days before his fourth album "On My Way Here" was released.  Robin Petkoff has been playing the role of Sir Robin since Aiken left the show.

In addition to promoting his new album, Aiken had also been busy preparing for fatherhood -- as his rep confirmed in May that he and record producer Jaymes Foster were expecting their first child together via artificial insemination.  Foster gave birth to Parker Foster Aiken last Friday morning.

Aiken's upcoming Spamalot stint is currently slated to conclude January 4.
