The American Idol second-season runner-up has impregnated record producer and friend Jaymes Foster via artificial insemination, TMZ.com reported Thursday.

"The story is true," a rep for producer, songwriter and composer David Foster -- Jaymes' brother -- told People. "It is true Clay is the father. She was artificially inseminated by Clay. She's due in August."

The 29-year-old Aiken and 50-year-old Foster "have been friends ever since American Idol, when they worked together," the rep told People. She also produced Aiken's third album "A Thousand Different Ways" and his most recent album "On My Way Here."

Aiken lives with Foster whenever he travels to Los Angeles, TMZ.com reported, adding she divorced a few years ago and has no kids.

In addition, Aiken plans on having an "active role" in raising the child, TMZ.com reported.

Aiken's sexual orientation became a hot topic of conversation almost immediately after he finished second to Ruben Studdard during Idol's May 2003 second-season finale, and he has previously stated how whether he's gay or not isn't anybody else's business but his own.

However the fact that Aiken has never directly stated whether he is gay or straight has only continued to fuel the fire. He recently claimed "people don't care" whether he's gay or straight.

Foster -- still married to Lou Leeds Levy and known as Jaymes Foster-Levy at the time -- has previously served as a judge on Star Search and Popstars, a reality competition that aired on The WB network in 2001 and 2002.
